About this studio
Dance & Bmore is a Baltimore-based arts organisation that combines dance, music, theatre and spoken word into interactive and empowering community programmes. Founded over 15 years ago, the ensemble creates multigenerational work designed to strengthen relationships, build community and foster creative connections across the city.
The organisation operates several core programmes. FazaFam Family Jam is a dance party featuring classic grooves, lively games and playful moves for parents and kids together. FazaFam Pre-K creates a communal learning environment where families build language, reading, maths, music and movement skills for toddlers through first grade. AMP Camp is an Arts Mentorship Programme for 3rd–5th graders introducing them to acting, creative writing, stage management, dance and costumes, mentored by award-winning arts educators. AMP Up! serves youth aged 16–24, offering weekly mentorship in theatre-making and music production from industry professionals.
The Elder Arts & Wellness Programme is central to Dance & Bmore's mission. Forever Fit & Fun is a movement and music class for those 65 and older, using seated movement, games and music to stimulate imagination and cognitive function. The Elder Arts Jam is a creative space where senior citizens dance, share recipes, stories and songs, with open mic segments and "Did You Know" health tips. The Dance & Bmore Elder Ensemble, artists in residence at the Waxter Center for Senior Citizens, develops original works highlighting the voices and perspectives of older Baltimore artists.
The ensemble is known for original theatrical works. Voices of Carmen, written and directed by CJay Philip, is a musical adaptation of the opera Carmen set in a high school, filled with fresh renditions of Georges Bizet's compositions alongside original music capturing the voice of today's youth. The production debuted in Baltimore in July 2019 and was featured at the DC Black Theater Festival, Atlanta Black Theater Festival and Kennedy Center Page to Stage Festival. Bmore Broadway Live celebrates Broadway shows and Baltimore talent. The Bmore Broadway Show showcases the Dance & Bmore Ensemble in Broadway classics and community storytelling under CJay Philip's direction.
Dance & Bmore hosts regular performances and events at Motor House (120 W North Ave) and partners with venues across Baltimore including the Waxter Center, 29th Street Community Center and various community spaces. The organisation is described as a diverse ensemble of singers, dancers, poets and musicians creating highly engaging, spontaneous collaborations that blend live music with movement and spoken word.
