About this studio
Dance Colorado is a private partnership dance studio run by Brad Ackerman, who has been teaching full-time for over 30 years in Colorado Springs. The studio specializes in partnership dance across multiple styles: Ballroom (Smooth and Rhythm categories), Country Western (including Nightclub Two Step and West Coast Swing), Club Salsa, and Swing. All students are taught using the Medal System, a standardized progression recognized across major countries.
The Medal System curriculum moves from introductory levels through Bronze, Silver, and Gold programs. The Introductory Special introduces you to the most popular dances based on where you want to go dancing. The Basic Program teaches three to four figures per dance with fundamental leading and following skills. Bronze level covers all aspects of partnership dancing with complete patterns and stylization. Silver level is designed for advanced social dancers seeking more freedom of movement and floor craft. Gold level serves performance-oriented dancers interested in showcase and competitive dancing.
Beyond regular classes, the studio offers wedding dance preparation for first dances, father-daughter dances, mother-son dances, and wedding parties. Ackerman will customize or choreograph routines to fit your song and learning style, and provides software to create perfect song cuts. He explicitly welcomes same-sex couples and offers instruction to children, teens, and adults of all ages.
The studio runs social dance parties where students practice and meet like-minded dancers—the next party is scheduled for February 21, 2026. Ackerman also organizes city social dance tours with small groups to dinner and dance venues, helps students prepare for showcase performances, and facilitates competitive events. The 6th Annual Gold Star Achievement Ball is scheduled for October 17, 2026, a collaborative Colorado event where students can become certified and recognized for achievement in partnership dance. Used dance dresses are available for purchase through the studio.
