The line dance programme blends traditional country with contemporary music, including a modern fusion influenced by TikTok trends. You can also learn Latin and ballroom line dances — the styles from Strictly Come Dancing — including salsa, samba, waltz, slow foxtrot, quickstep, rumba, cha-cha, tango, paso doble, mambo, merengue and bachata. All line dance classes are open to dancers of all levels and require no partner.
Modern jive (social dancing) developed in the 1980s from swing, lindy hop, rock 'n' roll and salsa. DanceXtra's approach emphasises the simplicity of the form: you can learn just 3 moves in a night and join in dancing straight away. The core technique uses about 20 basic beginner moves (including the Yo-Yo and the Catapult), with no structured footwork to master. Classes focus on lead and follow partner dynamics and dancing to varied music from slow to fast tempos. No previous dance experience or special footwear is required. The studio rotates partners during class, so you don't need to bring one — come alone or with friends and you'll dance with everyone.
Classes are held at Erdington Conservative Club Function Room on Orphanage Road, which has a car park. The studio emphasises a welcoming, inclusive community where you can meet new people, build friendships and confidence, and improve both physical fitness and mental wellbeing through dance.
