About this studio
Denver School of Social Dance opened in 2023 as a dedicated hub for social dance in Denver. The studio focuses on dances rooted in the Afro diaspora and street culture — Brazilian Zouk, Lambada, Lindy Hop, Salsa and Kizomba — rather than formal ballroom styles. The school teaches dancers at all levels, from brand new to advanced, with a teaching philosophy that emphasizes the authentic history of social dances born from cultural exchange and community gatherings.
Weekly classes are structured in two tracks. Thursdays feature a rotating Open Level class where a new theme is introduced each week (Rhythm, Flow, Space, Embrace), perfect for anyone new to the school or Brazilian Zouk. Wednesdays host progressive 6-month cohorts: the 100 Level is open to all levels for the first three months; the 200 and 300 levels require assessment. Private lessons are available with instructors who work 1:1 to build confidence, refine technique, and deepen partner connection.
Thursday nights include a social dance following class, included with your class pass. The school also runs special events including Assessment Night, Lamba Zouk Fest, Denver Zouk Marathon, and Back Room Fusion nights. Wedding dance lessons are a specialty — instructors craft personalised choreography to your song and style, whether classic, sultry or fun-filled, and welcome both partners as well as family members learning father-daughter or mother-son dances.
The teaching team includes co-founders Devon Near-Hill and Rachel Farley, both teaching Brazilian Zouk, Lambada and wedding dances. Additional instructors are Hunter Gill (Brazilian Zouk, DJ), Aleah Roberts (Brazilian Zouk), Jazmyne Lewis (Brazilian Zouk, Lambada), Dani Botello (Brazilian Zouk), Ry'el (Lambazouk/Lambada), Ben Sodenkamp (Brazilian Zouk), and Reuben Valeriano (Brazilian Zouk). The school's mission is to create a welcoming sanctuary for people from diverse backgrounds to cultivate friendships and practice healthy relationships through dance, promoting social cohesion, mental health and community engagement.
Class passes include drop-in options, one-month courses, 10-packs valid for 3 months, unlimited monthly passes covering all weekly classes plus Thursday socials with 50% off private lessons and discounts on workshops, and unlimited social-only passes. First class is free. The studio also runs an Ambassador Program recognising dedicated students with exclusive discounts and perks.
