About this studio
Dfw Salsa teaches Salsa and Bachata in Dallas under instructor Jay Styles, who has trained extensively in On2 New York Style with Eddie Torres (the Mambo King and creator of the On2 style) and Joel Dominguez. Jay's background includes two and a half years performing with Salsa Passion Dance Team across the country, and he now travels nationally teaching, MCing, and dancing at Latin Festivals and Congresses. His teaching philosophy centres on feeling the music and connection over tricks: he emphasises that simple, sexy dancing with genuine musicality outweighs complicated steps that don't fit the song.
Classes run three nights a week, each two hours long. Mondays and Wednesdays feature Salsa Level 1 (7:30–9:30pm), pitched as the fastest way to learn how to feel Salsa and perfect for beginners, though open to all levels. Tuesdays offer Bachata (7:30–9:30pm), covering Dominican footwork, leading and following techniques, sensual Bachata, body movement manipulation, and turn patterns. All classes start with footwork and mirror work in the first hour, then partner work in the second. No partner is necessary—the studio rotates students so everyone dances with different people, helping leads and follows adapt to various partners.
Private lessons are also available and can be stacked with group classes for faster progress. Your first class is free. Group classes cost $30 per session, or $120 for a 5-class package (10 hours total), valid for 6 weeks. Jay also offers online Salsa and Bachata classes. The studio is located at 18484 Preston Rd, Suite 201, Dallas. All class levels are welcome; Jay starts from basics and builds upward throughout each session.

Wear comfortable clothes. If dancing in heels, ensure they have an ankle strap. Bring flat smooth-bottom shoes as a backup. Also bring gum or mints, cologne or perfume, and deodorant.
Studio history
Jay Styles began dancing Salsa in Dallas in 2002 as a hobby. After four months of lessons, he was invited to audition for Salsa Passion Dance Team by Jessica Cepeda and accepted onto the team despite arriving late due to a tire blowout. He danced with Salsa Passion for two and a half years while learning visually from Spanish-language classes, then left to dance socially and train independently. When students began asking him to teach, he rented studio space and started classes. He later travelled to New York multiple times to train in On2 New York Style under Eddie Torres and Joel Dominguez, incorporating those principles into his teaching. More recently, he expanded into Bachata through inspiration from Jorge Elizondo (Bachata Jorge) and now teaches both styles while touring nationally.
