Dream Ballroom Academy

Dream Ballroom Academy teaches American Style Smooth (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz), American Style Rhythm (Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, Mambo), International Latin (Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive), International Ballroom (Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep), and other dances including Salsa, Bachata, and West Coast Swing. The studio is located in the greater East Memphis area near St. Francis Hospital, accessible via I-240 and I-385.

Alisa Hryn is the owner, creative director, and lead instructor. Originally from Ukraine, she brings over a decade of experience in Ballroom and Latin dance, trained with top-level coaches across the United States, and has competed professionally. Her background includes rhythmic gymnastics, jazz, ballet, hip hop, and contemporary, with international performance experience across Asia and the Middle East. Matt DeLockery, with over a decade of teaching experience, trains students in ballroom, swing, salsa, country western and more, combining clear technique with an encouraging approach.

The studio offers private lessons tailored to your background, interests, and goals, with instructors becoming your partner if you don't have one. Group classes are $15 per person and designed for beginners—at the end of one class you should be able to dance a few patterns to music with a partner. No partner is necessary, no appointment needed, no experience required. Private lessons are by far the quickest way to learn. The studio also offers online private lessons for convenience, available to students regardless of location.

Wedding dance lessons include choreography for your first dance, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, or the entire wedding party. Music editing is included with a minimum of 10 lessons. The studio can also choreograph wedding flash mobs. Youth ballroom dancing is available. The studio hosts ballroom dance showcases, dance competitions, and social dancing. Recent competitive achievements shown include Nashville Starz 2022 and Windy City Open 2022 presentations in Professional Rhythm. The studio runs special events including Date Night Dance Classes (couples Bachata, for example), Women's Brunch events, and regular group class offerings such as Beginner/Intermediate Salsa, Rhythm Technique, Country 2 Step, and Ladies Solo Latin. Free introductory classes have been offered, such as a Baton Twirling Intro for ages 5 and up. Studio rentals are available. There are no long-term contracts required.

Group classes welcome you without a partner, appointment, or prior experience. You'll learn basic patterns and movement techniques from experienced instructors who can adjust difficulty for your level. By the end of one class, you should dance a few patterns to music with a partner in a social, friendly atmosphere.
