About this studio
Dresden-Hepcats e.V. is a swing dance association that has been championing swing styles in Dresden since 2006. The group operates as a registered association with 170 members, 18 volunteer instructors, and a combined 160 years of dance practice. They offer a comprehensive swing programme running 7 classes per week with around 120 participants weekly, alongside regular social events and workshops.
The core of their offering splits into three areas. Classes run across five swing styles—Lindy Hop, Balboa, Charleston, Shag, and Solo Jazz—and are structured into three learning levels: Newcomer (for absolute beginners with no prerequisites), Improver (for those with solid fundamentals), and Explorer (for advanced dancers). Classes are held at TENZA and meet on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Pricing for standard 8-week terms runs €150 (full), €99 (reduced), or €75 (concession). Shorter workshop classes start at €40–€60 depending on length and content.
Social events—called "Socials"—happen three times per month and welcome dancers of all levels and ages. The LiveTanzBar is their flagship event series, held at Parkhotel am Weißen Hirsch and Haus an Kreuzkirche, featuring live swing bands and performances. Entry is €15 (normal) or €5 (reduced). These events feature live jazz from bands like Micha Winklers Hot Jazz Band and Red Tower Big Band, jam circles, and group performances.
Workshops bring international instructors to Dresden to teach advanced techniques and dance alongside dancers from other communities. All activities emphasise fun, improvisation, and individual style over rigid correctness. The association runs a strict Code of Conduct prioritising consent, safety, and inclusion: all dancers welcome regardless of age, gender, background, or ability, and harassment of any kind is not tolerated.
The team includes Kerstin (chair, events), Michael (vice-chair, instructor), Jens (treasurer), Albrecht, Sabrina, Sascha, Sophia, Konnie, Ermira, and Cassandra in various teaching and organisational roles. All programming is delivered through voluntary commitment.

Your first visit
Classes are beginner-friendly and require no prior dance experience. You'll learn in a welcoming, low-pressure environment with emphasis on having fun, moving to the music, and connecting with other dancers. You can dance with a partner or alone depending on the style and your preference.
