About this studio
El Cacha Tango has been part of Cape Town's tango community since 2003, founded by Mareli Schrötter, Nur Dreyer and Cherona Dreyer. The studio was built on a philosophy of shared enjoyment: dancing without barriers or competition, simply for the joy of movement. Today, Jackie Borez runs El Cacha and teaches the classes.
Jackie came to tango as a student of Mareli's in 2003. She brought an extensive dance background — trained in Cecchetti Ballet and Modern Jazz — but found her true passion in tango. She has since travelled to Buenos Aires to experience tango culture firsthand and trained with some of the world's great tango masters, including Juan Carlos Copes and Johanna Copes, Milena Plebbs, and the late Osvaldo Zotto. Jackie regularly travels to the Netherlands to continue developing her own style of dancing and teaching with Eric Jorissen. She was also part of El Cacha's performance team, dancing in past productions including "El Beso" and "Tango Portraits".
El Cacha offers post-beginner and improver-level classes on Thursday evenings from 7.15–8.45pm at St Thomas Church Hall in Rondebosch. The studio continues to play an active role in the development of tango in South Africa and the Cape Town tango community.
