El Punto Cubano

Punto Cubano Salsa Amsterdam has been teaching authentic Cuban salsa for over 25 years. Founded in 2000 by Ángel, a Cuban dancer, choreographer and teacher who spent years managing and producing Cuban dance groups in Cuba (including Compañía Danza Jaguey) and teaching art and musicology at Cuban universities, the school brings genuine Cuban dance culture to Amsterdam.

Angel and his team teach Cuban salsa across six levels, from Salsa Level 1 (Beginner) through to Level 6 (Superior). The curriculum builds progressively: Level 1 introduces first steps and leading/following concepts; Level 2 develops figures and playfulness; Level 3 adds complex figures and styling; Level 4 introduces couple rotation and Rueda de Casino alongside Cuban rhythms like Rumba, Mambo, Cha cha cha and Pilón; Level 5 intensifies these advanced concepts; Level 6 focuses on independence, creativity, and variations including Guaguancó, Yambú, Columbia and Son Traditional. Multi-week courses run throughout the year at five different start moments (Jun-Aug, Sept-Nov, Nov-Jan, Feb-Apr, Apr-Jun), and you can join mid-course at any time.

Beyond salsa, the school teaches Changüi (a dance from Guantánamo, Ángel's birthplace), Son, Rumba, Mambo, Chachacha, Pilón and other Cuban dance styles and rhythms. Beginners can start with a Tryout Workshop or join a full Beginner Course. The school welcomes all levels and offers a Helper programme for full-course students to practise additional classes at no extra cost. Multiple course discounts are available: 25% off a second course and 50% off a third course in the same period.

Classes take place at Studio Borgerstraat (Borgerstraat 112, 1053 PX Amsterdam, Oud-West) Monday to Thursday, 18:00–22:00. The school organizes weekly socials and monthly authentic Cuban Salsa parties at various locations, including The Brokers Bar (Oudebrugsteeg 9, Amsterdam Centrum), open Saturdays 20:00–01:00 and Sundays 16:00–21:00 during events. Private classes, private group workshops, corporate events and live DJ Latin nights with Cuban cocktails are also available.

The studio maintains a 5.0 Google rating across 319 reviews. Partner dancing requires commitment: students must cancel missed classes via their Mi Punto account to maintain balanced leader/follower ratios. Catch-up classes are possible if space and ratios allow but are never guaranteed. Cancellation of a full course up to two weeks before start incurs a €25 administration fee; no refunds are offered for missed or cancelled individual classes.

You'll join a warm, inclusive community that values connection and respect. Classes are taught without an audience (except with teacher approval for brief observation). Bring whatever you're comfortable dancing in—heels or sneakers are equally welcome—and keep yourself fresh and hygienic. The studio asks for respectful behaviour and mindfulness of personal space during partner dancing.

Ángel, the Cuban founder, leads the school alongside a team of enthusiastic teachers and assistants. Ángel is an experienced dancer, choreographer and teacher trained in Cuban universities, with years of professional experience managing and producing Cuban dance groups. His lessons are rooted in the authentic Cuban way of dancing as a physical expression of Cuban music.

The school is designed for fresh starts, offering beginner tryout workshops and dedicated beginner courses; all levels are welcome.
