About this studio

Eli Sanchez Argentine Tango is run by Eliana, who trained in Buenos Aires and has been studying tango for over 30 years. She danced with the Argentine National Academy of Tango, performed internationally, and presented tango at World Expos on behalf of Argentina. She has judged international tango festivals and championships, taught at the largest tango school in Buenos Aires, and has been teaching in Europe, Australia, and East Asia since 2000.

The studio teaches Argentine Tango as a social, improvisational dance—not choreographed performance tango. The approach emphasises how partners communicate entirely through touch: subtle leans, shifts, and elasticity in the embrace rather than visual patterns. Classes are available at beginner, novice, and advanced levels, with a monthly Discover Tango course designed for complete beginners. All group classes are taught in English, with Spanish, Italian, and French also available; Cantonese translation can be arranged. Your spouse helps teach Discover Tango and can provide additional translation support.

The studio was designed from the ground up for tango and GYROTONIC® training. The centrepiece is a maple sprung floor specifically commissioned to handle tango's frequent pivoting while providing cushioning for stage tango's jumps. The sound system uses multiple linked Sonos speakers tuned for the space. An ultra-short-throw projector casts a 110-inch image on the full wall, connected to the lights and sound systems and used for class visuals and online lessons with Argentine teachers. The studio has a room-wide full-length mirror, a sturdy barre, and a change-room with another full-length mirror.

Beyond tango, the studio offers GYROKINESIS® classes—a movement system addressing the entire body through rhythmic, flowing sequences. Eliana has been a senior GYROKINESIS® trainer for a decade and uses it to condition professional dancers. The studio is equipped with three GYROTONIC® pulley towers (each with a Wingmaster), an Archway, and a Leg Extension Unit, plus special GYROKINESIS® chairs, Manduka mats, bolsters, pillows, bands, a massage table, and clean towels.

The studio is located at 4/F, 381–383 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, a 5-minute walk from either Causeway Bay MTR (exit C) or Times Square. Two balconies—one spacious front balcony overlooking Causeway Bay and a back balcony with a BBQ and washing machine—provide social spaces. The waiting/lounge area has a hot/cold water machine and fast mesh WiFi.
