About this studio
Fanny Salsa Dance is a Latin dance studio in Buffalo run by Fanny Olaya, a Peruvian-born dancer and instructor who has been teaching salsa since 2008. Fanny is regarded as one of the best dancers in the region and has been awarded best latin dance instructor of Western NY four years in a row. She frequently attends salsa congresses and festivals around the world, where she participates in workshops, performs, and trains with world salsa champions including Oliver Pineda of Australia, Salsa On2 pioneer Eddie Torres of New York, Griselle Ponce of New Jersey, the Cobo Brothers of North Carolina, and Karen Forcano and Ricardo Vega of Chile.
Fanny was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where she grew up listening and dancing to salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia, cha cha cha, Afro-Peruvian and other Latin styles. She has been living in Buffalo for 18 years and brings that deep cultural background to her teaching. The studio offers classes at different levels—including Ladies' styling & bachata level 2—and provides private classes and choreography for special events and gigs. Walk-ins are always welcomed, and gift certificates are available.
Beyond classes, Fanny Salsa Dance is active in the Buffalo community, hosting regular social dancing events. Every Wednesday brings a salsa night with a guest DJ. The studio also organizes larger events including Salsa Saturdays at Canalside (short lesson and social dancing on the boardwalk), Salsa Vinyl nights, a Sunset Salsa cruise, and Salsa Night at Hard Rock Café in Niagara Falls. These events blend instruction with social dancing and are designed as places to meet new people and improve your craft in a fun setting.
Fanny has earned significant recognition beyond her teaching awards. She was named a 2016 Forty under Forty Rising Latino Star for Western Region of NY and has been featured in Buffalo Spree's Magazine as one of the best dance lessons of Western NY (2015–2019). She has choreographed for the Miss Borinquen Leadership programme and the BuffaloState International student night, and has contributed to numerous community celebrations including the Puerto Rican & Hispanic Day Parade, BPO Youth Concert Series, and fundraisers like Salsa for a Cure benefiting Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
