Town Ballroom is a general admission standing venue located at 681 Main Street in Buffalo, NY. The space has a storied past: originally called The Town Casino between the 1940s and 60s, it was Buffalo's finest restaurant and night spot, hosting Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and Les Paul. Al Capone was among the patrons who played cards in the basement. After changing hands several times—serving as home base for Studio Arena, then UB's Pfeiffer Theater, and later the Sphere Entertainment Complex—the venue was restored in 2005 by noted Buffalo promoters Artie Kwitchoff and Donny Kutzbach. They renovated the space to restore it as the Queen City's premier concert venue, ensuring the stage was magnificent for performers and the sight lines excellent for fans. The name Town Ballroom evokes the legendary grandeur of its predecessor.
The venue hosts a steady stream of live music across genres including rock, indie, alternative, hip-hop, electronic, country, and tribute acts. Recent and upcoming acts span from established names like Gogol Bordello, Taking Back Sunday, and Pennywise to emerging artists. Door times typically fall between 6 pm and 8 pm, with music starting around an hour after doors open. The venue operates a full-service bar and snack bar (serving La Nova pizza). Coat check is available for $3 cash.
Tickets can be purchased online at townballroom.com or in person at the box office Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 12 pm to 5 pm, as well as the night of shows. All sales are final with no refunds, though cancelled or postponed events receive refund information. The venue has a strict no re-entry policy.
Age restrictions are enforced: no one under 12 is admitted; patrons under 16 must have a parent or legal guardian present (unless otherwise posted); some events are 16+ or 18+ only. Government-issued ID is required for entry. A limited number of seated upgrade add-ons are available for non-disabled patrons; ADA seating can be requested by email at least a week in advance.
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited indoors per New York State law; an outdoor smoking section is available. Line camping is discouraged but generally permitted no earlier than 12 hours before doors. Photo and video recording policies are set by individual artists.
