About this studio
Forró em Diálogo teaches forró through a philosophy built over 15 years by Camila Alves: every class centres on communication between leaders and followers, not performance or memorisation. The school runs courses at multiple locations across Lisboa — Dance Factory in Campolide, BUS Paragem Cultural, AlmaDança in Almada, and Groovie Records — each with its own schedule.
They offer three distinct course types. Introduction to Forró runs 12 classes and suits complete beginners: no experience or partner needed. You'll learn basic steps and coordination, rhythm and musicality, partner communication, and how to move freely in both roles. Forró in Dialogue is for dancers with at least a year of forró experience who want to deepen their practice, moving beyond automatic patterns into true connection with a partner. The third course, Forró em Diálogo – Roots Edition, explores forró roots through listening, awareness, and shared construction, covering fundamentals, basic steps, applied musicality, partner communication strategies, and the freedom to explore both roles.
Classes are led by Camila Alves, Jaciara Gomes, Marcelo Oliveira, and Sara Soares. Jaciara, Marcelo, and Sara are teachers in training, undergoing structured internal formation that includes developing their own dance and studying Forró em Diálogo's methodology in depth. Each of their classes is prepared with Camila's guidance, ongoing sharing, and continuous feedback. Because they're still close to their own early learning, these trainee teachers bring genuine empathy for beginners — they remember the doubts, challenges, and joys of starting to dance.
The school's philosophy rejects rigidity. Classes work with technical precision but leave space to question, improvise, and create. They promote a feminist perspective on dance, respect the uniqueness of every body and process with empathy and without judgment, and question traditional norms. The focus is on presence, musicality, and dialogue through movement — learning to lead and follow with awareness, fluidity, and authentic expression.
