About this studio
Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Norwood teaches ballroom and Latin partner dances to students of all ages and ability levels, with or without a partner. The studio offers 15 distinct styles: Waltz, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Argentine Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Mambo, Jive, Paso Doble, East Coast Swing, Bolero, Merengue and Salsa. Instruction covers both International and American Ballroom styles, plus exhibition and theatre arts dances for social and competitive dancers.
The studio uses a three-part teaching system: private lessons (one-on-one or couple instruction), group classes with 8–12 students focused on dance mechanics, and Friday night practice parties with 30–40 people. Private lessons run 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm Monday–Friday and 11:15 am to 5:15 pm on Saturday. Group classes are 45-minute prescheduled sessions; practice parties happen Friday nights and serve as real-world social dance rehearsals where you navigate a full dance floor, lead and follow different partners, and apply combinations to full songs.
Your instructors are certified in the Fred Astaire curriculum, a proprietary method developed by Fred Astaire himself. Many hold Fine Arts degrees and are actively competing, award-winning professional dancers who have trained worldwide. The studio names four staff members: Nina DiPerrio (Executive Director), Istvan Cserven (Resident Coach & Director), Dan Shupert (Dance Instructor), and Allie O'Hara (Dance Instructor).
Wedding dance programmes are customized: from simple first-dance steps to fully choreographed routines for the entire wedding party. The studio recommends scheduling lessons at least a month before your ceremony (longer for elaborate routines). You can also arrange dances for parents' traditional Mother/Son and Father/Daughter slots. The studio encourages couples to bring favourite songs, venue pictures, wedding attire photos, and dance-video examples to your free consultation.
Fred Astaire Dance Studios participates in regional, inter-regional, and national Pro-Am and professional competitions, including the Massachusetts Open (June 12, 2026), Connecticut Opens (June 20, 2026), Northeast Dancesport Championships (August 20–22, 2026), and others, giving students opportunities to compete and travel. New students receive an introductory offer. The studio serves Dedham, Westwood, Norwood, Canton, Milton, Dover, Needham, Newton, Wellesley, Boston and surrounding towns.
