About this studio

Glasgow Jitterbugs teaches swing dance classes for adults in the Glasgow area, with a focus on Lindy Hop, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, St Louis Shag, Solo Jazz, and Soul Lindy. Classes run weekly on Thursday evenings at Garnethill Multicultural Centre, near the GFT cinema. The 7:15pm slot is Lindy Hop at all levels, perfect for beginners; at 8:15–8:30pm there's social dancing and partner practice time. The 8:30pm class rotates between dance styles every 5–6 weeks, so there's always something new to explore.

The studio is run by Stuart and Carla, the founding members, who teach Lindy Hop and Collegiate Shag from beginner to advanced level. They've delivered workshops across the UK and Europe, and are known for building the Collegiate Shag scene in Glasgow by running one of the first regular Collegiate Shag classes in the UK. They believe fun comes first and that solid technique creates more enjoyment.

Other teaching staff include Allie and Jass, who've been dancing together since 2016 and emphasise connection, energy, and personal style within technical fundamentals; Beth, whose passion for Collegiate Shag is matched by her wide knowledge of street dance and pole dance; and Ruaridh and Sasha, who centre on creativity, connection, and mutual contribution in their Lindy Hop teaching. Both of these pairs have trained across the UK, US coasts, South Korea, and mainland Europe.

No partner is needed—the studio rotates partners throughout all classes. You can pay drop-in rates on the night by cash or card, or book a 5–6 week block online for a discount. Beginners should arrive on time to learn the basic footwork in the first 15 minutes. The studio is prolific in organising swing dance events and workshops throughout the year, including the Soul Lindy Weekend. Private lessons are available for those wanting to fast-track skills, improve confidence on the social floor, prepare for weddings or special events, or supplement regular classes.
