About this studio
Gwen Burton's Professional Ballroom Teacher's Academy (PBTA) is a formal training programme for people who want to become ballroom dance instructors. It's the only Dance Vision-certified program in the Greater Sacramento area.
The PBTA programme is structured as either a 32-month part-time course (8 semesters, 2 hours per week) or a full-time 16-month option by request. You'll study a rigorous curriculum covering full command of 18 dances across American Smooth, American Rhythm, Club Dances, and more. The training goes beyond technique—you'll learn teaching methodology, how to command a class's attention, and how to adapt your teaching to each student's needs. Regular examinations and supportive feedback are built into the structured, affordable programme.
Trainees benefit from numerous dance classes at the studio and discounted coaching lessons as part of their training. The curriculum prepares you for Dance Vision instructor certification, which qualifies graduates for job opportunities around the country and typically commands higher salaries than non-certified colleagues. Upon completion, graduates are ready to start teaching immediately and are in great demand by students and dance studios alike.
Upcoming sessions run in semesters. The Fall 2026 semester (August through December) covers Cha Cha and East Coast Swing, with applications due by 27 July. Spring 2027 applications are due by early December. Former trainees report that the programme delivers not only complete dancer training but exceptional teaching preparation. The academy is housed at Spotlight Ballroom in West Sacramento.

Your first visit
