About this studio
Helsingin Tanssiopisto is Finland's largest and most diverse dance school, now in its 58th year of operation. The academy offers foundational dance arts training (taiteen perusopetus) to children, teenagers and adults across more than 60 different dance styles. With over 20 teaching locations across the greater Helsinki region, the school structures classes by age group and experience level: toddlers and young children (approximately 0–6 years), juniors (6–13 years), teenagers (12 years and up), and adult classes ranging from beginners to advanced.
The school runs a traditional academic calendar with summer courses (2026 summer includes weekly classes, intensive courses and dance camps). Beyond regular weekly classes, Helsingin Tanssiopisto offers family dance classes for parent–child pairs, specialized classes for over-50s and over-65s that progress at a gentler pace, and intensive courses and camps designed for technique development and style exploration. The Student Office (oppilastoimisto) is located at Mannerheimintie 40 A1 on the first floor in central Helsinki.
New students are invited to try free taster classes (kokeilutunnit) at the start of the autumn term to explore a style or discover something new without prior registration. The school offers trial lessons (tunnin kokeileminen) for prospective students, along with various discounts and financial support options including hobby grants (harrastustuki) and sports benefits (liikuntaedut). Gift cards (lahjakortit) are also available.
The school emphasises accessible, safe spaces and maintains policies on creating safer spaces (turvallisemman tilan periaatteet). Specialized training groups (erikoiskoulutusluokat) and intensive groups (intensiiviryhmät) are available for serious students. The academy also runs performance programming (esitystoiminta) as part of its educational mission. Academic year 2026–27 begins 10 August, with registration open and summer 2026 still accepting enrolments for camps and intensive courses.
