About this studio
Clarissa & Martin teach Kizomba and Zouk in Bern and Burgdorf. Clarissa, a native Peruvian based in Burgdorf, emphasises elegant posture and expressive movement while honouring her South American roots. She interprets Kizomba with sensitivity. Martin is based in Bern. Both have taught since 2015.
They offer private lessons as their main service. A single private session can teach you the basic Kizomba steps well enough to use them socially the same evening — progress in private lessons runs 3–5 times faster than in group courses depending on your inclination and commitment. Lessons can be taken in either Bern or Burgdorf and can be arranged at a time that suits you. Private lessons work for people learning alone or with a partner, for those short on time, for anyone uncomfortable in group settings, and for dancers working on styling or lead-and-follow technique.
Kizomba itself is a sensual partner dance that emerged in Angola in the 1980s, building on Semba and Caribbean Zouk. It has established itself alongside Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and Reggaeton worldwide. At its best, Kizomba feels like two souls dancing in one body. The dance meets four core human needs: embrace (happiness hormones), movement, music (emotion) and connection (belonging). You can feel these emotions even with just the basic steps.
Clarissa and Martin continue to develop their style at congresses in Switzerland and abroad, training with teachers including Isabelle & Félicien (Paris), Tomas Keita (Barcelona/Guinea-Bissau), Afrolatin Connection (Porto), Enah (Paris), Ennuel & Hakima (Paris), Sonja Bütikofer & Keith Gunura (Switzerland), Albir Rojas, Carola Tauler, Sara Lopez (Madrid), Donny Dudikoff-Clark (London), Elsa Mendes (Barcelona), Josy Borges (Zouk) and others. Clarissa is also a Zumba Fitness instructor and STRONG by Zumba™ instructor.
They run a WhatsApp group chat (free, no obligation) where members find dance partners, learn without leaving home, and connect with the Kizomba scene in Switzerland. They curate a Spotify playlist of over 300 Kizomba and GhettoZouk songs spanning roughly 21 hours. A Facebook group with around 950 members helps dancers find partners, courses, events and information about Kizomba, Salsa, Bachata, Zumba, Yoga and fitness.
