About this studio
La Passerelle Dance Studio operates from Rue Victor Hugo 145 in Schaerbeek under the philosophy that a dance class is a workshop of self-discovery. The studio is built on the principle that every student is unique, and teaching emphasises observation, understanding, and presence in the body. You will be invited to develop technique, biomechanics, and musicality within an environment described as one of freedom, kindness, and passion.
Christine Matthée founded and leads the studio as director and principal teacher. She trained at the Conservatoire de Bruxelles, then studied at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen under teachers including Dominique Mercy, Malou Airaudo, and Lutz Förster. Matthée teaches with the conviction that her role is to transmit knowledge she renews daily, and that being a teacher means remaining a student as well. Jade Waterloo teaches here too. She began contemporary and classical dance at six years old, studied dance humanities at Lycée Martin V, trained professionally at danscentrumjette for three years, and now teaches young dancers while continuing to develop her own creative projects.
The studio is run by the ASBL "Je danse donc je suis" (I dance therefore I am), a non-profit with a 30-year track record. The organisation has two functions beyond teaching: it supports young artists and choreographers by covering studio, performance, costume, and technical costs so emerging dancers can perform stage work without paying fees — recognising that stage performance is essential to learning. The ASBL also mentors young teachers informally, sometimes over several years, helping many former students become instructors or open their own schools. The studio's values rest on volunteer work, mutual aid, and sharing.
Contact the studio by phone or email. A private WhatsApp group shares news and updates about classes.
