About this studio
Latin Steps Dance Company is one of Brisbane's longest running Latin dance schools, training dancers from absolute beginner level to accomplished professional level. The studio offers public classes, team choreography courses, private lessons, and competition training across all Latin styles including Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha, Zouk and Samba.
Classes are structured by level. Beginners learn absolute fundamentals of timing, lead and follow technique, footwork and partnering skills. Improvers work on essential moves, combinations, and greater flow and creativity. Intermediate and advanced classes focus on individual styling, smooth combinations, and musicality. Specialised technique classes cover spins, balance, body movement, foot placement, and arm styling across all styles.
The studio is led by Carlos Galiano and Elli Torres, the current and undefeated Australian Salsa Cabaret Champions (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) who have qualified to represent Australia in the World Latin Dance Championships. Elli is the undefeated Female Salsa Solo Champion (2013, 2014, 2016), and Carlos is the World Salsa ProAm Champion 2014. Between them they have represented Brisbane and Australia as instructors and performers in Puerto Rico, Madrid, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Sydney, New Zealand, India, Hong Kong, Canada and beyond. They have trained and developed some of Queensland and Australia's key dancers and teams.
Latin Steps runs the award-winning Team La Clave, an intermediate Salsa On-1 performance team that learns world-class choreographies and enjoys performance opportunities locally and at interstate festivals. The studio also offers the Cha Cha Divas Choreography Course, a 20-week programme for ladies led by Elli Torres, with routines showcased at local parties and events (performing is optional).
The studio operates from three locations: Tuesdays at 19 Lotus St, Woolloongabba; Wednesdays at 474 Ipswich Road, Annerley; and Sundays at 10 Love St, Spring Hill. Monthly Salsa Social nights called Mambo Lounge run at Spring Hill Hall, 10 Love St, with doors opening at 6.45pm, a fun Salsa class at 7pm, social dancing from 8pm with resident DJ Carlos, and doors closing at 11pm. Tickets are $17 pre-purchased online or $20 at the door.

For your first class: expect a friendly, patient environment focused on fundamentals if you're new to Latin dance. Beginners learn timing, lead and follow technique, footwork and partnering skills. Classes vary by level and style, so come prepared to dance with a partner and have the basics explained clearly.

Who teaches here
Classes and private lessons are taught by Elli Torres and Carlos Galiano, founders of the studio. Both are current and undefeated Australian Salsa Cabaret Champions (2008–2011), with Elli also the undefeated Female Salsa Solo Champion (2013, 2014, 2016) and Carlos the World Salsa ProAm Champion 2014.

Latin Steps Dance Company is one of Brisbane's longest running Latin dance schools. Carlos Galiano and Elli Torres are the founders and have built the studio into Brisbane's most recognised Latin dance academy, with teams competing and performing at national and international festivals including Sydney Latin Festival, World Salsa Summit Miami, Byron Latin Fiesta, Brisbane Latin Dance Festival, World Latin Dance Cup Las Vegas, and many others since 2005.
