Lindy Fridays runs drop-in Lindy Hop classes every Friday night at The Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds city centre. The session runs from 7 to 9:40pm and is structured in three parts: an improvers class from 7 to 8pm, a beginners class from 8:10 to 9pm, and 40 minutes of social dancing afterwards.
The improvers class assumes you know the basic shape and rhythm of social dance and covers more in-depth techniques and complicated moves. The beginners class starts from the basic rhythms and footwork each week, then teaches a few moves built on those foundations. You'll learn that Lindy Hop is a partnered dance with a leader and a follower, and the class encourages you to pick whichever role you want to learn — traditionally men led and women followed, but the studio explicitly invites you to choose. Throughout both classes, partners rotate, so you don't need to bring one or have any experience at all.
After class, there's time to chat and dance socially with everyone. The studio describes itself as friendly and welcoming, and emphasises that it embraces diversity and aims to foster a supportive and accepting learning environment.
