About this studio
Majesty in Motion was established in San Diego in 2002 by David and Jennifer Stein, highly skilled salsa dancers with over 25 years of experience in teaching and performing. The studio has grown to become San Diego's largest and most elite dance studio, with a reputation for dynamic performances and infectious energy. David and Jennifer have travelled extensively, sharing their expertise through workshops and performances across Europe, Asia, and the USA.
The studio teaches a full range of Latin dance styles: Salsa (On1 and On2), Bachata (Traditional and Sensual), Mambo (Salsa ON2), and Cha-Cha-Cha, with occasional workshops in Merengue and Afro-Cuban styles. Classes are structured by level—beginner through advanced—so you can progress at your own pace. Beginner Salsa and Bachata require no partner and no experience; Level 2 and 3 classes build on cross-body leads, turns, and partner connection. Specialist classes include Level 3 Salsa Footwork (1 hour of shines and footwork), Level 2 Salsa Partnerwork (focused practice to music), and a Technique Class open to all levels that emphasises connection, timing, and rhythm. Mambo is taught from Level 1 through Level 3, with Level 3 moving at a fast pace and requiring strong fundamentals. Body Movement classes teach isolations and foot placement applicable to any dance genre.
Most group classes run about 60 minutes. The studio uses two rooms: a Large room capped at 65 people and a Small room capped at 55. Rows rotate during class so everyone gets clear sight lines to the mirror and instructor. Online pre-registration is required, with a waitlist option if a class is full. Private lessons are 45 minutes, available for all levels, and can be shared up to 2 people; small group private lessons up to 6 people are also offered. Cancellations must be made within 4 hours of class start, and classes expire after 1 year of booking.
Beyond classes, the studio hosts regular social events, student showcases, and dance nights at venues including Sevilla Night Club, Tango Del Rey, Meraki, Above Ash, Moonshine, and Julep. These events are where you can dance, connect, and perform what you've learned. The studio also runs monthly workshops and bootcamps, promoted via social media and the Majesty in Motion app. Team memberships are available for those training regularly; memberships are due on the 1st of each month with a $10 late fee if payment arrives after the 5th. The studio emphasises a supportive, inclusive community where dancers of all backgrounds and identities feel welcome.
