About this studio

McGovern Irish Dance has welcomed hundreds of dancers since 1999, operating four studios in Dayton and Troy, Ohio, and Lafayette and Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Dayton studio at 818 Linden Ave is the flagship location, offering the fullest range of recreational, performance and competitive Irish dance opportunities. Classes run weekday evenings and Saturdays and serve dancers from preschool through adult.

Programs span McGovern Mini Jigs for ages 2–5, where music, movement and imagination create a first Irish dance experience, through New Beginners for ages 5–17 and Beginner Adults. Progressive levels include Bun Grad, Ullmhuchan, Mean Grad, Ard Grad and Craobh Grad, with structured training from Beginner through Championship levels. Performance teams—including Pink and Black Teams—prepare dancers for festivals, parades, showcases and community events. Optional competitive training is available for dancers interested in local, regional, national and international competition.

Adult programmes welcome beginners and returning dancers. Competition and performance are optional; dancers may enjoy Irish dance recreationally or add performances and competitions when those experiences fit their interests and goals. Classes focus on strong fundamentals—clear technique, musicality, posture and steady progress from the very beginning.

First visits are welcoming. New families reserve a free introductory class before registering. Dancers wear comfortable athletic clothing and sneakers or socks to start; no Irish dance shoes are required initially. The studio emphasises that no previous experience is needed and beginners are welcome all year. Classes are enrolled by term: Term 1 runs September–December, Term 2 January–March, Term 3 April–May, and Term 4 (Dayton only) June–August.

The studio culture prioritises building confidence, creating friendships and connecting dancers to Irish heritage and tradition. Dancers have opportunities to perform at local and regional events, grow through shared goals, build lasting friendships and belong to a welcoming studio community.
