Media Luna - Tango Argentino am Südstern

Media Luna is a dedicated tango studio in Berlin-Kreuzberg run by Sonja and Christian, who have 23 years of shared experience in tango. They opened the school in 2014 after teaching in Berlin since 2006. Their teaching is rooted in deep mentorship: they studied under Argentine artists including Marta Anton and Manolo (El Gallego), who taught them canyengue and tango history, and under German Cassano and Liliana Espinoza, from whom they gained detailed technique and show dance foundations.

The studio keeps classes small by design. All group offerings are capped at 6 couples maximum, ensuring each participant receives the attention they need to progress at their own pace. Sonja and Christian teach as a pair so that both leader and follower roles have dedicated, expert instruction—a deliberate approach reflecting their belief that leading and following are equally important and equally detailed techniques.

They teach Argentine tango at all levels, from complete beginners through to advanced dancers. Beginner workshops run for three hours, after which newcomers report being able to dance along in a social setting. Courses, multi-hour workshops and private lessons are all available. For those wanting more flexibility or personalised pacing, private lessons are offered without a required partner. The studio also runs "Hochzeitstango" (wedding tango) bookings and develops choreography for other dance couples.

The teaching philosophy prioritises comfort and sustainability. They focus on elements that are pleasant and pain-free to dance, especially for dancers over 40. There is emphasis on clear explanation: the instructors have spent years identifying the root causes of difficulties and developing solutions that participants can actually implement.

The studio space is located at Körtestraße 33 in a garden building (ring the bell). In addition to classes and workshops, Media Luna also rents the space for other uses.

You'll work in a group of at most 6 couples with Sonja and Christian teaching both the leader and follower roles. Expect clear, detailed explanations and time for repetition; if something doesn't click straight away, that's treated as normal. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, and you'll have the chance to meet other tango dancers.
