About this studio
Modern Swing Dance teaches West Coast Swing at Willoughby Park Centre on Monday evenings. The studio runs structured 4-week terms with classes at four levels: Level 1 (Discover) at 7:00pm, Level 2 (Extend) at 8:15pm, Level 3 (Explore) at 7:00pm, and Level 4 (Innovate) at 8:15pm, with the next term starting Monday 3rd August 2026.
The team includes five experienced instructors. Nathan Walsh brings over 10 years of experience in partner dances including Ceroc (Modern Jive) and West Coast Swing, with strong musicality and successful competition results; he teaches regular weeknight classes and judges at events across Australia and New Zealand. Reasmey Tith trained from age 4 in tap, jazz and ballet, achieved champion status in Ceroc and Advanced level in WCS, and actively competes and judges on the AUS/NZ circuit. Jess Mar began dancing at age six in jazz, contemporary and hip hop, later specialized in Brazilian Zouk, and brings a diverse dance background and dynamic teaching style. Nathan Toussaint has over 25 years of experience in multiple styles including Salsa, Lindy Hop, Balboa and West Coast Swing, and regularly guest teaches across Australia. Tegan Lowe supports the community behind the scenes.
Level 1 (Discover) focuses on a fun and friendly environment where students learn the double and triple step rhythms, fundamentals including push, pass and whip in both open and closed positions, with each four-week course covering different variations. Level 2 (Extend) layers key variations, rhythm changes and introduces specific characteristics of West Coast Swing through new footwork and techniques. Level 3 (Explore) builds technical ability while broadening repertoire, including acceleration and deceleration, resistance, pulse, rock and go's, and ball-change rhythms. Level 4 (Innovate) is a continuous course focused on advanced concepts.
Beyond classes, the studio runs weekly socials every Monday from 9:15pm to 10:30pm for $5 at the door. Monthly dance parties are held on Saturdays (next advertised for July 25th 2026), with an open workshop at 6:15pm–7pm followed by social dancing 7pm–11pm for $25 at the door. Private lessons are available by request. The studio's mission is to create a safe, cohesive and inclusive learning space focused on giving students the knowledge to get the most out of dance, emphasizing that dancing is about the experience and building a supportive community.
