About this studio
Montreal Palladium is a dance venue and studio rental space located on Sainte-Catherine Street in Ville-Marie, inspired by New York's iconic Palladium Ballroom, historically known as "the home of the mambo." The original Palladium in New York City, operating from 1947 to 1966, was where Latin rhythms, American jazz, and swing merged to form mambo and salsa. Montreal Palladium honours this legacy by hosting regular Latin dance socials and providing rental space for dancers and events.
The venue hosts La Gozadera, a weekly Friday night Latin dance party (9 PM to 2 AM) featuring DJ Sam spinning bachata and salsa, with a free dance class from 9 to 10 PM. The event runs consistently throughout the year, drawing social dancers to its dance floors. The space has hosted major events including Echale Salsita and Echale Bachata (100% salsa and 100% bachata socials in separate rooms), Latin Groove's End of Session parties, and special themed nights like Les soirées Kemba celebrating kizomba, semba, and Angolan music culture.
The venue spans 7,500 square feet with capacity for up to 380 people and offers multiple rental spaces. Studio rentals include the Lounge (capacity up to 50 people for private classes, auditions, or practice) and Studios D and E, designed for dance classes, private events, and social dancing. The space is available for a range of uses: dance recitals, private dance practices, corporate events, sweet 16 parties, holiday celebrations, concerts, and intimate gatherings. Featured instructors leading workshops include Jonathan Tremblay (offering salsa workshops for beginners) and Jonathan & Nataly (Colombian salsa specialists), with DJ support from Sam, Nav, and guest DJs.
The programming reflects an inclusive approach rooted in the original Palladium's ethos: "no matter where you are from, no matter what your background is, no matter what your socioeconomic status is, everyone can dance and be part of this community." Latin music styles taught and danced include salsa, bachata, kizomba, semba, reggaeton, and Colombian salsa. Entry fees for socials are typically $12 to $15.

Studio history
Montreal Palladium draws inspiration from New York's Palladium Ballroom, which operated from 1947 to 1966 as the birthplace of modern Latin dancing. The original venue featured live Latin music four nights a week, often performed by orchestras including Machito and his Afrocubans, Tito Puente, and Tito Rodríguez. Montreal Palladium honours this legacy by creating a space where Latin dance, music, and culture celebrate the fusion of rhythms that created mambo and salsa.
