About this studio
Rick Hockman Dance Company is a Virginia Beach ballroom studio built around social dancing and a warm, low-pressure atmosphere. Owner-instructor Rick Hockman is one of the most popular ballroom dance instructors in the Hampton Roads area, specializing in social dance instruction for students of every age and ability. His energetic teaching style and knack for finding different ways to explain steps help even self-described "I can't dance" students progress quickly through the skill levels.
The studio describes itself as "a great group of people who love to dance and have fun." Classes run on a four-level progression (Beginner 1, Beginner 2, Intermediate, and Advanced), and the focus is firmly on social dancing rather than competition — though advanced classes add stylistic "spice" to challenge experienced dancers. The studio is located inside 757 Events at 176 S Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach.
What to expect
Your first visit
No partner is required — singles and couples are both welcome. Couples may stay paired in group lessons, but the studio encourages all students to rotate partners, which exposes dancers to a range of skill levels and strengthens both leading and following. New dancers typically start in a Beginner 1 group class and progress upward as their skills develop.
