About this studio

Rockin' Flip teaches three linked swing dance styles in central Paris: Lindy Hop, Rock Boogie and Solo Jazz. Classes run weekly with enrolment by semester or year. The studio holds open-air summer bal nights — free dances where you can test what you're learning.

Classes meet at two locations. The main hub is Jussieu (Place Jussieu, near Campus UPMC Centre Sportif Jean Talbot at 7 quai Saint-Bernard, 75005), served by Métro Jussieu. A second venue is at 188 rue d'Alésia, 75014, near Métro Plaisance. Both locations have named studios: at Jussieu, classes use the Isadora and Relaxation rooms.

The weekly schedule offers multiple entry points across three dance styles. Monday at Jussieu opens with "Initiation au swing" for complete beginners, covering both Lindy Hop 1 and Rock Boogie 1 basics in a single 75-minute session (19:30–20:45). The same slot continues into a "Passerelle" bridge level teaching Boogie Woogie 2 from 20:45–22:00. Tuesday at Alésia features Solo Jazz 1 and 2 with instructor Catalina. Tuesday and Thursday at Jussieu offer Lindy Hop discovery and progression: Defne & Benjamin teach a "Découverte Lindy Hop" class on Tuesday (20:00–21:00) followed by "Consolider et explorer Lindy Hop 2" (21:00–22:00). Thursday brings advanced Lindy Hop 3 with Keitlyne & Omar (20:00–21:00), plus a single-session Lindy Hop 1–2 course (20:00–22:00) for flexible attendance. A monthly intensive Boogie Woogie 3 course runs Thursday evenings with the same instructors.

Levels are structured by dance history and prior training. Lindy Hop 1 and Rock Boogie 1 require no experience. Boogie Woogie 2 demands six months' background in Rock 6-time (from any school) or Lindy Hop, with the basic step already mastered. Boogie Woogie 3 asks for a year-plus of Boogie or Lindy Hop with regular practice, mastery of the 8-count base, and solo foundations — and requires individual teacher sign-off. Lindy Hop 2 needs at least six months of Lindy Hop study; Lindy Hop 3 asks for eighteen months of coursework and practice, plus known swing outs, variations, and solid Charleston technique. Solo Jazz 1 has no prerequisites; Solo Jazz 2 requires a year of Solo Jazz practice.

The studio runs monthly free practice sessions for enrolled students and offers reduced rates for the stages and festivals it organises. Its signature festivals are called Boogie Drop and feature live music concerts. Summer bal nights are free, run across the season, and need no partner or prior experience to join.

You do not need a partner to start, and no dance background is necessary for any beginner class.
