About this studio
Cortés Dance is a Latin-owned studio in Caulfield North, Melbourne, founded on authentic technique and community. Directors Pedro Gonzalez and Tiffany De Caires both grew up in Venezuela and first met at Pedro's previous school, Soul and Dance, in Puerto Cabello—a name chosen to remind dancers that "when you dance you dance from your soul." They bring that philosophy to Melbourne, where the studio has been trusted by thousands of students since 2008.
The studio teaches Salsa and Bachata as core styles, with additional development in Mambo, Salsa On2, and Styling & Technique. Supportive Latin styles include Cha Cha Cha, Cuban Rueda, Pachanga, Rumba (Afro-Cuban), Cali Style, and Samba. Classes run from Level 0 (absolute beginner) through advanced, with clear progression pathways: Intro Class, Level 0, Level 1 (split across 1A and 1B cycles), and ongoing regular classes. The instructors—Pedro Gonzalez, Tiffany De Caires, Hayden Hayes, Nicole Burgos, Monika Duszyńska, and Kim Looker—are described by students as both highly skilled and committed to making newcomers feel welcome and safe.
Beyond regular classes, Cortés Dance runs Me Gusta Parties (Salsa Edition and Bachata Edition, featuring all-night music), team training for committed performers, private lessons, corporate events, and wedding first-dance choreography. The studio organizes social dances and actively encourages beginners to participate. Student feedback emphasises the supportive, family-like environment and the balance of challenge with patience.
Membership options range from casual drop-in classes to structured memberships: Foundation (1 class per week), Progression (2 classes per week with monthly Me Gusta credit), and Full Access (unlimited classes with credit). A 1-Week Trial Pass and Intro Class (30 minutes, free with $10 credit if you join) help new students find their level. The studio also offers an 8-week Beginner Course for those starting at Level 1. Flex Pass and team training are available for varied schedules and goals.
