About this studio

Cambridge Cuban Salsa runs weekly classes and socials on Thursdays at 19:30 at Meadows Community Centre, 299 Arbury Rd, Arbury. The Thursday session focuses on Rueda and Footwork, with separate teachers for Beginners and Progressive levels. Beginners learn basic footwork, bodywork, lead and follow, and musicality. Progressive dancers work through basic casino moves and more complex combinations, footwork, bodywork, lead and follow, musicality, AfroCuban, and Rumba. Each class runs for one hour from 19:30, followed by social dancing until 21:30 with DJ Sacha.

No previous dance experience is needed and no dress code applies — just wear comfortable shoes. You don't need to bring a partner; the group pairs dancers together. All teachers are fully trained and insured, with qualifications traced to professional masters. DJ Sacha, the lead instructor, has trained since 2004 with top international teachers including Alberto Valdez, Yeni Molinet, and Luanda Pau, and developed his teaching style from Cuban traditions, martial arts, and mindfulness. He is also known internationally as a salsa DJ and runs a free music podcast.

The teaching team includes Kellie (training since early 2013, attended RuedaFest and SBK), Rachel (joined in 2017, extensive ballet background, intensive AfroCuban training as a Luanda Pau Performance Group student), and visiting Cuban master Luanda Pau, who trained at Havana's National School of Arts and was a lead dancer with Conjunto Folklorico Nacional de Cuba. The group emphasises progress at your own rhythm, no competition or pressure, and a safe, fun, inclusive environment.

The venue has a high-quality sound system and is well ventilated. The studio is upstairs at Meadows Community Centre — turn left at the top of the stairs. Parking at the Meadows is limited to 2 hours; the surrounding residential area has off-road parking with no yellow lines. Bicycle racks are available. Book online in advance via PayPal (no account needed) or pay by card or contactless at the venue. Cash is not accepted.
