About this studio
Colours of Dance was established in Cambridge in 2010 by Imogen Knight, who initially offered ballet, tap and modern classes in Fulbourn and Great Wilbraham before settling the school into Cambridge Dance Studios in 2012. The studio is now led by Miss Imogen alongside nine other teachers, serving all ages and abilities across multiple dance disciplines.
The studios are located on Levels 1 & 2 of 182 Histon Road, Arbury. They feature proper dance floors and full-length mirrors, providing a professional-standard dance environment. Classes run Monday to Saturday during term time, with office hours 10am–4pm Monday to Friday and 9:30am–4pm on Saturday. The school works closely with local schools, running classes and clubs from their premises as part of an outreach programme.
Classes are offered in Ballet, Contemporary, Tap, Street Dance, Musical Theatre, Jazz, Pilates, and Acrobatics. The studio prepares students for external exams through RAD, ISTD and Rambert Grades. Teaching emphasizes safety, with all staff being qualified, inspiring, dedicated and experienced professionals. The school believes dance classes should be appropriately challenging, fun and creative, with careful monitoring of each student's progression. Class sizes are capped at a maximum of 16 students to ensure individual attention.
Both children and adults can join. Children's classes are charged termly and often run full, managed through a waiting list. The school invites new students to try a class when a place becomes available. Adults can also commit to termly fees, though flexibility is offered where weekly attendance is not possible. Private tuition is available. All new students are asked to register before attending, and trial classes are offered to all prospective students.
In December 2024, Colours of Dance was awarded a Grant from Cambridge City Council to support students whose families are facing financial hardship. The studio also runs Colours of Dance Radiates, a registered charity (Charity No: 1187021) offering creative dance to children who have experienced bigger challenges in their lives, including those with neuro-diversities, disabilities or adverse childhood experiences. Radiates currently runs two classes at Castle School, led by experienced teachers and inspiring students.
