About this studio
SALSAtlanta has been teaching Cuban dance in Atlanta since 1999, founded by Julian Mejia. The studio specializes in Rueda de Casino and Casino dance—also called "Cuban Salsa"—and has built a reputation for promoting Cuban music and dance culture across Georgia.
Sunday classes run in three time slots: 5:00–6:00 PM, 6:10–7:10 PM, and 7:15–8:10 PM. Each slot offers multiple levels so students of different abilities can attend simultaneously in the same room. Beginners start with foundation work; intermediate students progress at their own pace. One slot includes Ladies' Styling. Payment is handled online via the Glofox app.
The teaching staff includes Julian (Director), along with lead instructors Steve and Renate (both members since 2004), and Maria (member since 2004). Additional instructors Derrick, Su, and Abdi joined more recently. All are performers and choreographers trained in Casino, and many teach complementary styles: Steve and Renate cover Cha Cha Chá, Afro-Cuban, Rumba, Danzón, Son, Timba, Suelta, Cardio-salsa, and Cubatón.
Beyond classes, SALSAtlanta runs regular social events. BAILAtlanta is an annual weekend festival of Cuban music and dance. Timba on the Shed happens the first Saturday of each month at Ponce City Market outdoors. Timba at Wild Heaven (in Avondale) and other venue nights keep the community dancing. The studio also produces Timba Thursday events and has hosted signature parties like the SALSAtlanta Annual Fiesta de Navidad (since 2002) and SALSAtlanta 10 (since 2009).
You can book instructors or the performance team for weddings, corporate events, or private classes. DJs and live salsa bands are available. The studio maintains a YouTube channel with class videos and is active on Facebook and Twitter.
