About this studio
Sound – Irish Dance Factory teaches Irish dance in Oslo, operating both as a teaching school and a performance company. The studio offers structured courses including beginner classes for teenagers and adults (starting Monday 31 August) and dedicated children's classes. Beyond regular tuition, Sound runs social céilí events in collaboration with the Irish band Muintir and An Ioura (the Irish cultural centre), where participants learn Irish group dances — set dances and céilís — led by a céilí caller who instructs and guides dancers through the movements to live music.
The performance side of Sound operates as an Irish dance company that has performed with notable artists including The Chieftains, Helene Bøksle, and Johnny Logan. The company offers entertainment for any occasion and can be booked for events.
The studio's social calendar is active and varied. Regular events include céilí nights, workshops, summer school (Féile Oslo), pub takeovers, St. Patrick's Day celebrations and concerts, International Dance Day celebrations, and a summer programme called "sommer og bydansing" (summer and neighbourhood dancing). There is also a competitive element through féis participation (Irish dance competitions).
Céilí events are open to all skill levels and require no dance experience. The next scheduled social céilí is "Spring céilí" on Friday 24 April at Gymsalen, Sentralen, from 18:00–20:00. At these events, dances are taught before they are performed to live music, and there is socialising between sets. Tea, coffee, and a bar are available. Private céilí events can also be booked.
Contact the studio by email for questions, bookings, and registration. They welcome suggestions for activities and programmes.
