About this studio
Special Hearts in the Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Corpus Christi dedicated to providing weekly fine arts classes and performance opportunities to individuals with special needs. The program is specifically designed for people who want to explore art, music, dance, theater, and film, led by trained professionals.
Classes are held at Casa Ortiz Event Center (4411 Gollihar Road, Corpus Christi) and can culminate in live performances for family, friends, and the community. The organization's mission is to allow participants—known as STARS—to showcase their talents through the arts and connect with others in the South Texas area through public engagements and entertaining performances.
Special Hearts in the Arts has received substantial community support, including grants from the Coastal Bend Community Foundation ($4,000), CITGO ($7,500), and Heart & Soul Resale Shop ($3,000), which have enabled the organization to continue its mission.
The organization spearheaded the launch of Special Hearts Day on a state-wide level in 2023, a celebration officially declared for a 10-year period in Texas that highlights Texans with disabilities and celebrates their special abilities. In addition to its core programming, Special Hearts in the Arts welcomes enquiries about participating, volunteering, and booking.
