About this studio
Corpus Christi Ballet is a professional dance company founded in January 1974 as the Corpus Christi Ballet Theater under the direction of Larry and Bettye Roquemore. The company's first season featured Peter and the Wolf, followed by an invitation from Maestro Maurice Peress to perform the first production of The Nutcracker — a tradition that has continued unbroken for 40 years. In 1985, the company was renamed and Richard and Cristina Munro joined as Artistic Directors. Since the 1985–1986 season, Cristina Stirling Munro has served as sole Artistic Director, bringing her extensive professional experience from the National Ballet of Holland, London Festival Ballet, and the American Ballet Company. Alexandra Emory, a former Principal Dancer and Ballet Mistress, now serves as Co-Artistic Director.
The company maintains a full roster of Principal Dancers, Soloists, and Company Members who perform in classical ballet works. Artistic leadership includes Resident Choreographer Julie Green. The company performs with the Corpus Christi Ballet Orchestra, providing live musical accompaniment to productions. Corpus Christi Ballet is an Honor Company with Regional Dance America and participates annually in the Southwest Regional Ballet Festival.
Productions centre on two major classics. The Nutcracker runs in December, featuring over 100 performers with lavish scenery and costumes, accompanied by Tchaikovsky's music performed by the Corpus Christi Ballet Orchestra under the direction of Maestro William Reber. Family Weekend performances are held on the second weekend in December, with Gala performances featuring the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra on the third weekend. Coppelia, subtitled "The Doll That Came To Life," opens in mid-April. Nutcracker auditions are held in mid-September; Coppelia auditions take place in mid-January.
The company operates educational outreach programmes. Ballet Works for Kids includes lecture demonstrations, and Children's Spotlight on Ballet features school shows at Selena Auditorium, presenting highlights from current public productions for students and staff across the Coastal Bend area. The company also offers venue rental for special events and meetings at its building on North Mesquite Street.

Performances range from family-friendly matinee and evening shows to formal Gala performances with the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra. Founded in January 1974 as the Corpus Christi Ballet Theater by Larry and Bettye Roquemore, the company performed Peter and the Wolf in its first season and began the tradition of The Nutcracker that same year. Renamed Corpus Christi Ballet in June 1985 with the arrival of Richard and Cristina Munro as Artistic Directors, it has maintained continuous Nutcracker performances for 40 years and developed a subscription season and association with the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra.
