About this studio

Studio Tambor teaches dance to adults in Helsinki, specialising in salsa, rumba, reggaeton and heels. The studio is run by Hanna-Maija, a professional dancer and teacher whose career in dance began in 2002. Studio Tambor itself was founded in 2010, growing from a shared creative space in Katajanokka where Hanna-Maija and collaborators explored dance together. After five years there, the studio moved to a larger space in Kaapelitehdas, where it ran over 30 weekly classes taught by seven skilled teachers across the first 12 years of operation.

In 2022, Hanna-Maija made a deliberate decision to downsize and refocus the studio's direction. The move was rooted in a desire to concentrate on the core work of teaching and the essence of dance itself, rather than pursuing growth for its own sake. Today, Studio Tambor runs a more intimate programme: Hanna-Maija teaches six groups per week, creating a studio environment where she knows each student by name. This shift has allowed her to foster a closer, more personal teaching relationship with her dancers.

The studio offers weekly classes and intensive courses throughout 2026, as well as private lessons. Students describe the classes as inspiring and good-quality work, with a good atmosphere. The studio is located at Sörnäisten rantatie 33 C, Energiakatu 3, in Helsinki's 00500 postal district. The office is closed from 1 June to 20 July 2025.
