About this studio
Swing Away is a Lindy Hop and Swing Tanz school with seven locations across Hamburg (Hamburg-Mitte, Altona, Eimsbüttel, Nord, and Hamburg-Wandsbek), operating since 2016. The school teaches Lindy Hop, Swing Tanz, Charleston, Collegiate Shag, Shim Sham, Boogie Woogie, and Rock 'n' Roll to beginners and advanced dancers alike.
Classes range from free trial sessions (Schnupperkurse) and crash courses to regular beginner courses, weekend workshops, and private instruction. Beginner courses cost €29, weekend workshops €15, and private lessons €39. You can drop in any day — no partner or prior experience needed. Classes are open to adults, seniors, students, couples, and singles.
Swing Away runs a busy social calendar with four weekly social dance nights: Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday in Barmbek (Wiesendamm 24) and Wednesday in Altona (Hospitalstraße 111). Free trial sessions run at 7 p.m. before social dancing starts at 10 p.m. (Barmbek Friday and Saturday until midnight). Social dance entry is on a donation basis. The school maintains a WhatsApp and Signal community of over 1,100 dancers, and publishes a full Hamburg swing calendar covering Lindy Hop, Swing Tanz, Charleston, Balboa, Shag, and Boogie Woogie events across the city.

What to expect
Your first visit
