About this studio

Swing Base is a Lindy Hop and swing dance school in Berlin with classes across three neighbourhoods: Immanuelkirchstraße in the main studio, Gleisdreieck, and Prenzlauer Berg (Caminada). The school teaches Lindy Hop at all levels, plus Balboa and Solo Jazz, with a team of instructors including Valentina, Clément, Lotte, Cameron, Dafa, Charlotte Caminada, and others.

Beginner courses run for 10 weeks, one hour per session, covering basic dance figures, musicality, and body awareness. No partner is needed to start, though the school notes that coming with a partner can help with class balance. Experienced dancers can drop in for single classes (15€) or buy a 4-week card (50€). The school describes Lindy Hop as a dance originating in the 1920s and 1930s in the African-American community, characterised by playful improvisation and dynamic partner connection.

Classes run throughout the week across the three locations. Beginner Lindy Hop starts on specific dates (19 August, 2 September, 6 September depending on location). Intermediate and advanced classes are available for dancers with 6 months to 3+ years of experience. Balboa is taught at beginner and intermediate levels. Solo Jazz Open classes are also offered. Saturday practice sessions are open to all for 5€ per dancer.

The school hosts regular events including Swing Am Gleisdreieck (with indoor classes, outdoor beginner sessions, and live music), Renate Swing outdoor dancing every Tuesday in summer at Wilde Renate, and special events such as Knall auf Ball im Säälchen and a Christmas Ball at the French Institute. Workshops are run by visiting teachers—for example, a July 4th Swing-Out Clinic with Bea from Leipzig and Clément (45€, 3 hours). The school also offers dance performances, swing introductions, and workshops for birthdays, weddings, team building, and parties.
