About this studio

Swing Dance Leipzig is a specialist school teaching the dances of the swing era. Founded and run by Anna-Maria and Ralf Bernhard, the studio offers classes in Balboa, Lindy Hop, and Solo Jazz/Charleston in small groups with personal attention.

Weekly courses run at two levels. Solo Jazz Basics and Intermediate classes meet Monday and Thursday evenings from 17:30–18:45. Balboa Basics runs 18:45–20:00, with Intermediate sessions at 20:00–21:15 and a second Intermediate slot at 21:15–22:30. Lindy Hop Basics (18:45–20:00) covers 6count Groovewalk, while Intermediate Lindy Hop classes at 20:00–21:15 and 21:15–22:30 focus on Lindy Hop/Jazz Routine. Course blocks typically span 6–8 sessions over several weeks.

Beyond weekly classes, the school runs monthly weekend workshops in Balboa and Lindy Hop at Basics and Intermediate levels, each 2.5 hours long. The Leipziger Balboa Wochenende is a signature annual event combining 8 hours of workshops with a social dance party. Private lessons are available, and regular Swing Dance Nights (alternating Lindy Hop and Balboa themes) give students a chance to practise socially.

Anna-Maria and Ralf are active competitors and teachers on the international swing circuit, attending and teaching at events across Europe including Balboa festivals in Switzerland, France, and the UK. They also organize travelling workshops and intensives for advanced dancers.

The school closes for summer break from late July to late August each year.
