About this studio

SwingJammerz is a non-profit association founded in 2001 that teaches swing dance rooted in African-American culture. They offer year-round classes in Lindy Hop, Charleston, Solo Jazz, and Blues at multiple locations across Montpellier, including several neighbourhood community centres (maisons pour tous). The association is run by around twenty volunteer instructors who are passionate about swing.

Classes are open to all levels and beginners are encouraged to join with no dance experience needed. The first two weeks of each course are free to try, so you can test different classes before committing. You can attempt trial classes without registering. Courses run from September to June each year, with registration opening in early September. Mid-year joins are possible—contact the bureau to discuss options based on current level and availability.

Lindy Hop and Blues are partner dances that require balance between leaders and followers. While it's preferable to register with a partner, you can also sign up alone. During classes, you will regularly change partners as swing is a social dance. Both men and women can choose either role (leader or follower). If you come from another dance background like rock or salsa, you'll start at Level 1 to build proper foundations specific to swing.

Beyond classes, SwingJammerz runs a rich social calendar. They host a free monthly evening at Halle Tropisme with live music, entirely funded by the association. Throughout the year they also organise swing socials, apéro events, shows, initiations, and other gatherings. This is both a teaching studio and an active social dance hub.

Admission to events requires membership (€20 for the year). Payment for courses is handled through Savemeadance and can be split across three instalments. Refunds are available pro-rata until the end of December if circumstances change; after January, refunds are no longer offered. Contact the bureau if you have special circumstances before registering.
