Tango Sydney teaches Argentine Tango to beginners and intermediates through private classes, small group sessions, and workshops. The studio is run by Principal Instructor Sandy Grant, who has been teaching tango in and around Sydney since October 2001. Grant first studied tango in Buenos Aires in 1999, then spent almost 7 months there in 2001 learning and dancing up to 10 hours a day, 7 days a week. Since then she has continued her training through workshops led by interstate and international teachers.
Argentine Tango, as taught here, is described as passionate, sensual, elegant, romantic, intuitive, improvised and heartfelt. It is created "in the moment" from a variety of basic steps and functions as a pure form of communication without words — a moving meditation to music.
Currently, Tango Sydney offers private classes at $130 per hour for a single person or couple. A special offer provides 5 private classes paid in advance for $500, though these must be taken within 4 months and are not transferable or refundable. Classes take place at Swingtime Dance Studio, 26-28 Cook Rd, Marrickville. The studio also offers wedding couple classes and gift certificates customised to your requirements.
Tango Sydney's stated purpose is to inspire, support, accelerate and empower students to overcome their perceived limitations and achieve their highest potential in a friendly, fun environment. Sandy Grant has taught across a range of disciplines since age 12, including swimming, water polo, dance, English to foreign students, and computing and business subjects to MBA level.
