About this studio
Tango Viento teaches Argentine tango in Prague 3–Žižkov with a philosophy centred on conversation and connection rather than choreography. Argentine tango is fully improvised — the leader proposes and the follower interprets, creating a unique dialogue each time. Born in the late 19th century on the outskirts of Buenos Aires from a melting pot of African, European, and indigenous cultures, tango has been on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list since 2009.
The school runs three levels. Tango from Zero is a beginner course taking you from your first embrace to your first improvised dance, with no partner or experience required. An ongoing Intermediate group meets on Thursdays for those who have finished the beginner course or already dance, focusing on technique, musicality and improvisation. There is also a two-hour Taste Tango discovery session for complete newcomers to experience the dance and understand how the school teaches before committing to a course.
Classes run three evenings a week: Beginners on Tuesday 20:00–21:30, Intermediate on Thursday 20:00–21:30, and a Practica led by Matej on Friday 17:00–19:00. The school keeps groups small — typically 6 to 12 people — so everyone receives individual attention. Partners rotate during class, so you dance with everyone; no partner is needed to join. You will improvise and connect from your very first class.
Alina, a lifelong dancer who discovered Argentine tango six years ago after leaving two contemporary dance companies, studied intensively with top maestros in Buenos Aires and continues exploring tango across Europe. Sergey began dancing tango in 2011 in Moscow and brings a background in programming, martial arts, and movement practices including Wing Chun and Tai Chi; two intensive trips to Buenos Aires reshaped his understanding of close embrace tango. Their teaching philosophy emphasises tango as conversation, not steps.
Students report feeling confident and capable within hours. One newcomer, who arrived with no partner and no prior partner-dance experience, found herself dancing convincingly after just two hours. Another praised the structured progression of exercises, the warm atmosphere, and the coaches' clear explanations of why, not just how. Tango improves posture, coordination and balance while sharpening focus and presence — you must listen with your whole body. Many practitioners find it deeply meditative. The school has been operating in Prague for 2 years with 30+ students.
What to expect
Your first visit
You will arrive at Chlumova 260/23 in Žižkov for a 90-minute evening class in a small group of 6–12 people. Partners rotate, so you won't partner with the same person twice. From your first class, you learn through improvisation and feel the music rather than memorise steps. Expect to move, connect, and be surprised by what you can do.
