About this studio
The Groove Room SF is a ballroom studio in San Francisco's Mission District, founded to offer an alternative to the crowded, high-pressure studios that dominate the Bay Area. After years of teaching at various big dance studios in the Bay Area, the founders envisioned a fresh space where people could truly enjoy learning to dance without pressure or pretense.
The studio specializes in wedding dance—first dances, flashmobs, mother/father dances—and social dance for all levels and styles. They also run group experiences including date nights, bachelorette parties, and corporate team bonding events. All private lessons are 60 minutes in a private studio. The studio has served over 200 couples since 2018. Longer lessons can be booked back-to-back on the same day; Zoom lessons are available on request.
Your first visit starts with a discovery call. The studio is appointment-only, operating weekdays 3 PM to 11 PM and weekends 8 AM to 11 PM. Same-day bookings are available by phone, text, or email. Private lessons accommodate up to two people; additional party members can be added for $50 each. For groups larger than five, the studio offers group experiences. The studio can travel to your private location or studio within 10 miles, and also offers lessons at a location in Redwood City.
The space features a spacious dance floor, mirrors, and privacy. Parking is street parking (mostly non-metered); after 6 PM parking is easy, but before 6 PM the studio recommends allowing 5–10 minutes to find a spot. The studio is located minutes walk from SOMA and Folsom Street, with nearby dining and leisure options.
Instructors are experienced professionals hired for their skill, kindness, and investment in your learning. They perform, travel for competitions and workshops, and bring current industry knowledge to each lesson. Tais Zhukova comes from a competitive ballroom background, has been a U.S. national finalist, and is a Top Thumbtack Pro for 2023 and 2024. She has a deep love for salsa, bachata, waltz, tango, and cha-cha. Brian Levine has six years of teaching experience, with the last three focused on wedding dance; he integrates concepts from theater performance into choreography.
