About this studio
The Movement Studio is a dance school in Bern's Felsenau district specialising in tap dance and modern jazz. Founded and run by Fabian Schneider and Carmen Ritchie, it positions itself as Bern's largest tap dance community, offering classes across multiple levels and age groups.
Fabian Schneider began dancing at age 8, moving through gymnastics and hip-hop before discovering tap. At 26, he earned a scholarship to the Professional Tap Programme in Barcelona, where he trained intensively for three years as part of various dance groups before returning to Bern. Carmen Ritchie's journey began in Canada, where she trained in tap, ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary dance. She passed official exams in ADAPT tap, ADAPT jazz and Royal Academy of Dance Ballet, and spent four years with the Tri-Tone Rhythm Ensemble performing across Canada and the US under teachers including Tasha Lawson, Dianne Walker and Derrick Grant. In 2018 she was hired professionally for the production 'For The Arms That Have Held Me' by Jenna Werhun. She then completed a 9-month Professional Tap Dance Training Program at Escola Luthier de Dansa in Barcelona, training daily with artists including Guillem Alonso and Roser Font. She spent two years as a member of Barcelona Rhythm Tap before moving to Bern in 2021 to co-run The Movement Studio with Fabian.
Classes run for children from age 6 upwards, teenagers and adults, with both introductory courses (Einführungskurse) and semester courses (Semesterkurse) available. The studio describes itself as a community of passionate dancers who support and encourage each other, with experienced teachers focused on creating an welcoming atmosphere where students develop creativity and grow as dancers. You can arrange a free trial class (Schnupperstunde) by contacting the studio.

Fabian Schneider, owner and teacher, trained at the Professional Tap Programme in Barcelona and began dancing at age 8. Carmen Ritchie, co-owner and teacher, trained in Canada and the US with professional tap dancers including Tasha Lawson and Dianne Walker, completed the Professional Tap Dance Training Program in Barcelona, and brings certifications in AcroDance teaching, Barre Fitness, Alixa Flexibility Level 1 and Progressing Ballet Technique.
