About this studio

Villalba Tango is run by Eduardo Villalba, a maestro born and raised in La Boca, Buenos Aires, who immigrated to the United States in 2008 and has since become a cornerstone of the Chicago tango community. With over two decades of experience, Eduardo teaches from a philosophy grounded in fundamentals—walking, posture, and connection—rather than memorized patterns. His approach blends technical precision with emotional expression, body awareness, and spiritual connection, drawing on his background in psychomotor development, biomechanics, and cultural philosophy.

The studio offers private lessons by appointment at 5063 N Glenwood Ave in the Andersonville neighbourhood. Eduardo is known for his athleticism, musicality, and elegance on the dance floor, and has collaborated with renowned tango artists including Marcela Duran, Lorena Ermocida, and Fernanda Ghi. His work has reached audiences nationwide through festivals, marathons, dance studios, and universities. He has performed in Buenos Aires at Porteño y Bailarín, and his performances span venues in Chicago, the Hudson Valley, North Carolina, Indiana, and Argentina.

The studio runs a regular weekly schedule: La Práctica de los Jueves (Thursday Argentine Tango Class + Practica) meets 7pm–9:30pm at Pho Viet, 4941 N Broadway. Tango Lab Chicago, described as "where better social dancing begins," meets on the first and third Saturday of each month from 4pm–6pm at Dance Center Chicago, 3868 N Lincoln Ave, 2nd floor. An online Argentine Tango class runs every Friday at 6pm–7pm. Milonga Shanel, a friendly social tango event welcoming all levels and out-of-town travellers with change of roles permitted, takes place every fourth Friday of the month from 8pm–11pm.

Eduardo's mission extends beyond teaching dance; he is committed to sharing tango as an expression of Argentine culture and identity. The studio has cultivated a welcoming tango community in Chicago and its suburbs, hosting performances and cultural events that have elevated the Chicago tango scene to international recognition.
