About this studio

Woodside Jazz teaches swing dance in a dedicated 100 m² studio in central Madrid, in the Atocha–Lavapiés neighbourhood just behind the Museo Reina Sofía. The school offers two main disciplines: Lindy Hop, a partner dance born in the Harlem jazz culture of early 20th-century New York, and Solo Jazz, an individual style where you learn classic Charleston steps and authentic jazz improvisation and choreography.

Classes run year-round from beginner level. The school runs "courses from zero" with no prior experience needed. Lindy Hop meets Mondays at 19:00 (€95), Wednesdays at 17:30 for the under-30 group (€72), and Fridays at 19:00 (€120). Solo Jazz runs Thursdays at 18:00 and Fridays at 18:00, both €120. You do not need a partner to sign up for partner classes — you rotate through the group during lessons.

The studio space is described as luminous and spacious with a slippery floor suited to dancing. It is located in the heart of Madrid's Centro district. The school organises regular events and trips for the swing community, sharing updates on Instagram of class summaries, student dancing, swing trips and social events.

Woodside Jazz was founded in 2021 and is run by creators who continue the project with enthusiasm, supported by what the website calls "great teachers". The school emphasises the history and cultural roots of swing: a musical style born in the late 1920s and developed through the 1930s in the United States, linked to African diaspora dances and used by young people as a form of protest and escape during economic crisis and racial segregation. Today swing continues to evolve through a global community of dancers.
