About this studio

Yuka Kodama Ballet Group teaches ballet across multiple levels in Oxford, from complete beginners to advanced dancers. The studio offers a wide range of class styles: classical ballet technique at every level (Beginners/Returners, Beginners/Returners Plus, Lower Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate/Advanced), plus specialist classes in Pointe Work, Tone and Flex, Mechanisms of Ballet, and Boys' Technique. Classes run at two locations: Banbury Road and Jericho Community Centre. You can also take a Beginners Warm-Up before class, or purchase a Day Ticket for unlimited classes.

Yuka Kodama-Pomfret, the founder and principal teacher, trained from age three in Japan and studied at the Tokyo Ballet Company, Vaganova Academy in St. Petersburg, and the State Ballet School in Vienna. She performed classical and contemporary roles with the Japan Ballet Association and international guest artists. Her teaching method is rooted in the Russian tradition, particularly the Bolshoi method, passed down through teachers trained by Sulamith Messerer.

The studio has an established track record of preparing students for top ballet schools. Many of Yuka's students have gone on to the Vaganova Ballet Academy, English National Ballet School, Elmhurst Ballet School, Bird College, Urdang, Italia Conti, and London Studio Centre. Beyond technique, the studio emphasises that ballet is for everyone, welcoming dancers of all shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds.

The studio runs an annual show (YKBG Annual Show 2026). Classes are also offered through the Oxford University Ballet Society. Most standard classes last 1 hour 30 minutes, with specialist pointe and tone classes running 45 minutes. The studio operates on a pay-per-class model with no long-term commitment required.
