Overview
Founded 6 January 1936 by Rukmini Devi Arundale (with George Sydney Arundale and Yagneswaran) as the International Centre for the Arts on the Theosophical Society campus, Chennai. Recognised by the Government of India as an Institution of National Importance by an Act of Parliament in 1993 and operating as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Culture. Its Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts offers courses in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic music and visual arts.
