Overview
Founded in 1930 by the poet Vallathol Narayana Menon and Manakkulam Mukundaraja. Describes itself as "the premiere public institution in the country for the preservation and promotion of Kerala's traditional performing arts" and is recognised by the UGC as a Deemed to be University for Art and Culture. Teaches Kathakali (Vadakkan and Thekkan styles), Mohiniyattam, Kutiyattam, Thullal, Kathakali music and percussion, under the residential gurukula system.
