Overview
World Dance Council (UK-founded). Emphasizes International Standard and International Latin in the British ballroom tradition. Prestigious but smaller than WDSF.
History
The WDC traces its origins to 1950 when it was established as the International Council of Ballroom Dancing (ICBD) in the UK.
When the organization split in the late 1990s, the UK-based faction retained the WDC name and continued the British ballroom tradition.
The WDC sanctions some of the world's most prestigious competitions, including supporting events at Blackpool Dance Festival.
The organization is smaller than WDSF but commands significant prestige, particularly in the International Standard world.
WDC maintains strong ties to the English/British style of ballroom teaching and competition that has defined the art form since the early 20th century.
